About the location

The Villas Hotel Bahia del Duque can be found on Tenerife’s south west coast, in the upmarket town of Costa Adeje. It’s close to the beach, where you’ll find golden sands imported from the Sahara Desert, as well as water sports, family friendly restaurants, bars, and cafés.

Those wanting to explore will find volcanic landscapes and mountain ranges in the centre of the island, with the cable car to the top of Mount Teide worth it for the stunning views. There’s also horse riding, mountain biking, and hiking available, as well as golf at Costa Adeje’s excellent course. If you’re travelling with children the whole family will love a day out at one of the area’s two water parks.

We visited as a couple, 7 nights B&B, 4th visit to Costa Adeje. Breakfast was really good, lots of choice of eggs, freshly cooked mini burgers, waffles, fruits, nuts, meats, cheeses, cakes and more. The pool areas and overall hotel are beautiful, there are plenty of sunbeds and towels. It’s easy to go for a walk or run along the beachfront and the beach is lovely. There are lots of steps at the hotel to be aware of and you might want to wear something other than flip flops. The fitness programme is good, the trainer was excellent and we did aqua and spin. Before 11am the pool area is very serene and I loved it, so if you’re an early riser you can get a few hours there and lounge or read a book. In the afternoons there was quite loud music on many days from about 1pm until 4pm (and aqua was 12pm to 1pm) and it just seemed too long for such a resort. I resorted to noise cancelling headphones. To move to a quieter area would be closer to the family swimming area or completely away from the area. There was a children’s pool. There was also only one heated pool and that often had families with young children too. We went outside of school holidays. I don’t think there’s an adult pool. There are lots of beautiful pools that are not heated, but for us we found them breathtaking cold and we hardly went in which is unusual. We found the sea to be better temperature. Lunches were generally a bit disappointing. Crab salad was crab sticks, chips only just cooked, paella was the wrong version and cost more etc. The beach restaurant (hotel owned) on the beach for lunch was great (sardines, prawns, gazpacho). For dinner we were disappointed by La Hacienda (very salty food, lack of service and poor seating). We tried to book dinner at two other restaurants but they were booked or unavailable. We went to the Playa Duque shopping centre 5 minutes away and found a casual cafe with nice, less expensive salads for lunch. And at the other end of the spectrum we can recommend the Michelin restaurant El Rincon de Juan Carlos for dinner which we walked to. Also La Torre Mirador, and Moon for a cheaper meal (rabbit stew). It is a lovely hotel with a mix of couples and extended family groups and the staff are really nice, the lunches and too much music were the slight downside for us and it needed a little more cleaning in communal areas. If we went again we’d want to book restaurants in advance, even for lunch and understand the music activities.
