Lopesan Baobab Resort

Myself and my mother came to this hotel in February for my 34th birthday for 9 days. Upon arrival to the hotel, the outside of the building is very impressive. Staff waiting outside the hotel to welcome you was a very nice touch. Check-in was a breeze and the welcome drink upon arrival was a nice touch, especially after a long day of travelling. The reception area was extremely clean, the decor definitely fitted in with the African theme of the hotel. Reception staff were very helpful and gave us a map of the hotel and helped how to get to our room. They were very pleasant, helpful and warm. We LOVED the fact that on ground 0 there is a little pond area with tortoises (REAL) is amazing and so nice to stop and watch them for a little while. ROOM - We had a family room, very spacious. Sofa bed was already made up when we entered. The beds were so comfortable and we had the best nights sleep for 9 days. As for previous reviews on people complaining about the 'paper thin walls', I can admit that myself and my mother did not hear a thing. The area where the beds are, could be doing with more lightening but I can understand that the hotel are trying to stick to the theme of africa and the rooms being of a dark ambiance. The bathroom area was well lit. plenty of lightening. All the toiletries you need. EXCELLENT BIG BATH!! Wardrobe space brilliant. However, if you are smaller than 6ft then you will have trouble hanging your clothes up in the wardrobe. Its not made for small height people. POOL AREA - FABULOUS!! 9 swimming pools so you were never struggling for space at the pools or struggling for a sunbed. As there was always free beds whatever time of the day. For the size of the hotel, the pool we were at, was extremely quiet. Cleaners were always out numerous times a day cleaning around the pool, emptying bins ect. Bar staff were out around the pool also numerous times a day making sure all guests were well hydrated. Very friendly, they always stopped to chat to you and ask how you were. BIRTHDAY - I was treated nothing short of royalty on my birthday. Staff member arrived with chocolates and a Happy Birthday card from all staff at the Baobab Lopesan Hotel which was very lovely. I also recieved a complimentary cocktail from bar staff at the burton bar when they realised it was my birthday. A very nice touch. All in all, the baobab was absolutely stunning. a few tweaks could be made - make the bedroom area a bit more brighter the halls you walk along at night is pretty dark with dim lightening - could make the lights a bit brighter as it can become a trip hazzard some of the carpets are taring away that can easily be fixed to maintain the 5* that the hotel claims to be. also the breakfast - not much to boast about. we found the 'hot' food not as hot as it should be. Stunning hotel, Stunning grounds, 10/10 staff. We will defo return. Would reccomend. Thank You to all staff at Lopesan Baobab 5* Resort for making my birthday one to remember :)

As it's our last night, I wanted to write a quick review of our time here. Grand entrance and welcoming staff who added a special requirement to have something extra as we were getting engaged. They delivered champagne and chocolates to the room. Big room with a partial view of the sea and large bath/shower wet room. Separate toilet and 2 single beds pushed together which we liked. We also had a couch with would fold out bed if needed. Plugs are either side of the bed and there is a TV, but without any English channels. You maybe able to cast from your phone? Though we were unsuccessful. We plugged in a Switch however and played when there were some rainy moments. Breakfast was decent, it's a buffet with many options and we found that if you got there before 8am there wasn't a queue. The pools were lovely and the lazy river was a decent temp to swim in. Not warm but not the most cold I've had. Staff seemed friendly and the cleaners always came to tidy the rooms daily. The lighting around the rooms and hotel are rather dim, which makes it sometimes hard to see so my (now) fiancé struggled doing her makeup and can be a trip hazard if walking up/down the stairs It's a large hotel so it's easy to get lost. You should download the free Lopesan app. They don't really advertise the activities around reception, but in -1 you can find by the main pool some day activities and inside there is a bar with a stage where professional acts perform each night. We had a band, flamenco dancing, acrobats and a magic show. It was better than average but the audiences were usually small and not fully engaged. It rained on the first two days of our holiday so we hoped there would be an Animation team available to provide alternative entertainment as we couldn't sunbathe. We waited around for darts and no one showed up and again for a quiz and eventually a member of the team spoke to us and showed us some question cards for a few minutes and that was that. We ended up going to the opposite sister hotel (Costa) where they had a great team and alternative activities. I also found this was more engaging as it was advertised on a screen with the animation team using a microphone to announce the activities. The hotel itself is very picturesque, and has a unique, although sadly, the main water feature where the flamingos was dried out due to a leak that had been ongoing from before we got there, which was a shame as it's a key feature and we didn't get that benefit. All in all, it's been a decent holiday, however, I would rather book the Costa Lopesan as it had better daytime activities, a beautiful view of the infinity pool overlooking the sea and lighter. Saying that, it was a bonus we could access it so it seemed we got the best of both worlds anyway.

The hotel overall is beautiful full of interesting decor throughout. The pools are also excellent but the temperature is cold.(we visited in Feb) When we arrived we had to wait over half a hour to be seen at the reception and get checked in. I’m not sure why this process is so slow and definitely needs addressed. When we eventually got into our room we were met with an extremely unpleasant smell which I believe was to do with a drainage issue. I had to return to the reception and again wait to be seen. It was informed that the room would be deep cleaned to remove the odour. Once cleaned the room still had a foul smell and we were informed that there was no alternative as the hotel was fully booked. The following day we were moved into a new room which didn’t have any issues. The meal is a buffet and was very much the same each evening. The food is average if I were to return I would stick with bed and breakfast its definitely not worth the additional cost for full or half board. Overall we did have a nice holiday despite the initial issue with our room and below standard guest service. (Definitely not a 5star)The hotel is great for children with wonderful pool areas set in a tropical paradise.
