Lopesan Baobab Resort is an African wilderness in the heart of Gran Canaria.

The jaw-dropping architecture and design embraces the island’s African influence, from natural colours and materials, to meandering walkways, pools and waterfalls. The reception is a fully-fledged jungle, with a soaring 21-metre African lodge housing the hotel’s buffets and bars. It’s full-on paradise for adventurous kids; every walk from your room to the pool is like a safari, and there’s a brilliant line-up of sports and activities. The icing on the cake comes courtesy of the huge lagoon pool, complete with lazy river.

Occupying a peaceful corner of Maspalomas, Playa Meloneras' mix of elegant hotels and access to the area's best beaches has made it a new favourite hot spot in Gran Canaria. Playa Meloneras' little beach is classically Canarian, with calm, clear water that's perfect for a swim. The upmarket seafront promenade is the heart of the resort, headlining the best dining picks and a few relaxed beachfront cafes for sitting out with a cold San Miguel. Look out for some of the more traditional restaurants for a more authentic experience - the list includes a locally run Spanish restaurant serving huge pans of seafood paella. Playa Meloneras is a stone's throw from Maspalomas - its famous rolling sand dunes are a 15-minute walk along the coast.
