Is the Hotel room You Chose realy Accessible? What would you do if you arrived at your vacation at a luxurious hotel, after booking an accessible room for a wheelchair, and discovered significant defects that caused you distress and ruined your vacation? Unfortunately, I had such an experience this April I arrived at my "accessible" room, in a fancy hotel in Malaga, Spain. I chose an expensive, beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the sea, I trusted the hotel management that if they sell the room as an accessible room, they know what are the accessibility regulations. But unfortunately there were many accessibility issues that prevented me from moving Here are the problems I faced in the room: Entrance The entrance door was heavy, making it very difficult for me every time I wanted to enter or exit the room Bathroom * The shower was equipped with a grab bar and a seat, the faucets were nice and decorative but hard to operate. Every time I entered to shower, I struggled with the faucets to get water flowing and to regulate the temperature. * The bathroom sinks were too big, the faucets were far from the wall of the sink, I couldn't turn on the faucet while sitting on the wheelchair. A longer faucet or a smaller sink would have help me wash my hands easily * Along the width of the bathroom door there was no grab bar, as required, which allows holding to close the door. * The hangers on which the bathrobes were hanging were too high. I needed acrobatics to take down a robe.] * On both sides of the toilet bow, there are grab bars. One is fixed to the wall and one drops down from the wall as needed. Unfortunately, the drop-down grab bar was not working properly and could not be fastened to the wall, so it remained down and blocked the passage to the toilet bow. At my request, a technician fixed the drop-down grab bar, but after two days the same problem recurred and needed to be fixed again. Living Room * The bed was at a standard height and the maneuvering space around it was spacious, but it was impossible to view the scenery and the sea, because the room window was too high for someone sitting in a wheelchair. * The mini bar (fridge) was placed in an odd way in a high cabinet and not as usual under a table or cabinet. This location did not allow me full use of the fridge except for the bottom compartment. * The safe was placed inside a closet as usual, but again in a high compartment within a deep drawer. After entering the opening code, I could not put in or take out the contents of the safe due to the height and depth. * All the hangers were placed in the closet, on a very high rod. This left me with the ability to hang only shirts, in the designated area. I did not hang dresses and suits because the hangers were too high for me. Conclusions 1. I guess that the hotel's management was assisted by professional specialists to plan and to equip the accessible rooms of the hotel. And I am sure that these specialists based their plans on accessibility regulations. 2. Highlighting the gap between defining a room as accessible versus the reality on the ground demonstrates the need not to merely implement accessibility regulations 3. the problem is that most of the professional specialists do not have a disability, and they don't feel the limited abilities while sitting in a wheelchair. 4. I guess that hotel managements and also the hotel where we stayed, in Malaga, Spain, assume that guests with disabilities necessarily arrives with an accompanying person, who takes care of them and performs the necessary actions for them. Dear managers, this is not my case, and many from my friends, we are completely independent and do not need the help of anyone in our daily routine. 5. It is time for all hotels to internalize that the purpose of making the hotel in general and the rooms in particular accessible is intended to allow guests with disabilities, with the help of accessibility accessories and height adjustments, to function independently and enjoy their stay at the hotel, just like other guests. 6. It is advisable for hotels to introduce a unique questionnaire for guests with disabilities, which will allow them to describe the difficulties and flaws they encountered during their stay at the hotel, because accessibility is not just a theory but the ability to cope with limitations through the use of aids and adaptations. 7. Hotels will not lose financially from providing accessibility of rooms and public areas. Accessibility does not only serve the needs of guests with physical disabilities. Elderly guests also lose some physical ability as they age, and they too would be happy to get an accessible room that facilitates their mobility and functioning.] Increasing the number of accessible rooms, equipping them and adapting them to the diverse needs of guests with disabilities and the elderly will increase the demand for vacations at hotels, and there is no doubt that those hotels that invest in accessibility will enjoy high demand and significant profits.

Staying at an air b and b in the old town we were in need of some luxury and a pool! We did the day pass option and loved it!! Gorgeous hotel and the pools are stunning!! An adult section too which is always a win. Towels and a cool box of water provided. We also had lunch at spiller beach club which was delicious.

While making the reservation, I asked for a quiet room. The room we were accommodated in was on the edge of a building bei a very noisy motorway - the horrible noise was day and night!!!While making the reservation, I checked whether it was possible to receive a twin room with two separate beds, three weeks later (but still before coming to the hotel) I asked about it again and each time I received confirmation that I would be accommodated in room with two separate beds . Upon arrival, we received double room had one large bed. If I had known that I would be cheated, I would not have booked at this hotel. No reaction, no apology, even no answer for my complaint! I contacted to several person from the hotel staff.
