Within the heart of the hills of Funchal and surrounded by lush botanical gardens, lies the five star Quinta Jardins Do Lago. Originally built in the 18th century and once the home of a wealthy Madeiran family, this hotel oozes character and charm. A truly beautiful hotel which offers a unique Portuguese holiday.

The hotel is regarded of one of Madeira’s most exclusive hotels, offering unique dining experiences, colonial opulence and an outside pool surrounded by lush palm trees. The rich history of the architecture is brought to life throughout every aspect of the building, from the comfortable rooms and suites through to the outside space, which boasts over 500 different species of plants. Guests will also find Colombo the giant tortoise from the Galapagos who has been living within the hotel’s gardens for the past 50 years.

The Beresford Restaurant

About the location

Jardins do Lago is located along Madeira’s southern coastline, where you’ll find the pretty, cosmopolitan town of Funchal. The town is home to a spectacular array of facilities and is full of upmarket shops and restaurants, as well as stunning botanical gardens just waiting to be explored. One of the main attractions is its cable car, which will take you from the top of the surrounding cliffs, over the whitewashed buildings of the town, to the sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean. 

The whole town of Funchal is full of wonderful plants and greenery, with bougainvillea adorning the walls and the mountain forests providing a luscious backdrop. The abundant nature of its surroundings has made its way into the town’s cuisine, where you can enjoy fresh locally caught seafood, produce from the island’s farms and delicious locally made wines.
