Good for Couples Private Pools Boutique

  • A luxury eco-lodge hotel, just 15-minutes from Le Morne beach
  • A daily changing menu that features local produce and authentic Mauritian specialities
  • Three standard rooms and 17 secluded suites with private pool enjoy stunning tropical garden views or vistas over the Indian Ocean
  • Enjoy live music four times a week and a fire pit show on weekends
  • An utterly secluded luxury estate in the middle of the tropical forest
Set at 400-metres altitude, Lakaz Chamarel is not your typical 4+* luxury hotel. This resort is daringly different; the 20 rooms are in the form of eco-lodges, which are spread out across the whole valley, inviting beautiful views from every angle. Each lodge has been lovingly decorated by the owners, so no two rooms are alike, and guests have everything needed for a very comfortable stay. The top suite, the Piton Canot Suite, with its breathtaking views, private gazebo, own swimming pool and gorgeous open-air bathroom, is pure perfection for couples and honeymooners alike.

The beautiful eco-lodge hotel oozes charm and bohemian character. This boho chic feeling is spread throughout - from the original artwork on the walls to the antique furniture in the lodges. The elegant infinity pool is nestled in flower-filled tropical gardens, which homes mango trees, frangipani and hibiscus. Don’t hesitate to stop one of the on-site gardeners and ask for a tour of the grounds.

Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge offers a regular shuttle to Le Morne - widely reputed as being the most beautiful beach on the island. Complimentary bike rental is available to explore the Chamarel countryside, so why not cycle into Chamarel village just a couple of minutes away by bike (or a 10-minutes’ walk) from Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge and really get a feel for authentic Mauritius? We promise you’ll come back from your trip relaxed, refreshed and full of fantastic memories.

A stay at Lakaz Chamarel should be considered as an ideal combination with your beach stay. We recommend speaking with your Personal Travel Planner to decide whether you should consider this before, or after, your beach stay. Two to three nights are recommended, although you may decide to stay for longer in this extroardinary retreat. Due to the position of Lakaz Chamarel, built into the hillside, it is not recommended for those with restricted mobility.

Facilities

Bars and Restaurants

Food is taken very seriously at Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge. Breakfast is served buffet-style and features lots of international and local options, while lunch and dinner, served a la carte in the small restaurant, are centred around authentic Mauritian food. Our recommendation is to try one of the local dishes such as chicken and shrimp curry, topped off by a glass of ice-cold beer!

Beach and Pools

The luxury eco-lodge resort has two pools that are amongst the beautiful gardens. A daily shuttle takes guests to Le Morne beach on the southwest peninsula of the island in just 15 minutes. Or why not jump on one of the complimentary bicycles and enjoy the beautiful ride down to the beach through Chamarel? The hotel can organise transport back if you don’t feel like pedalling back!

Spa and Wellness

Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge is focused on your wellbeing. The main aim of a stay here is to relax in glorious surroundings and be able to recharge. Mind and body are genuinely looked after, so do take full advantage of the fitness kiosk and daily yoga and meditation sessions held in the gardens. The little spa offers a spectrum of massages using oils from the nearby Chamarel Mountains.

About the location

Chamarel is a small and friendly village where international guests are welcomed like long-lost friends. Stroll into the ‘town’ and enjoy a meal or sundowner in the local village that Malcolm de Chazal, the Mauritian poet, once called home.

Happily, the area is blessed with lots of natural wonders but has stayed well under the tourist radar. Black River Gorge National Park is on the doorstep, so do take a trip into this protected forest and try and spot a few of the famous birds (Kestrel, Pink Pigeon, and Green Parrot) that have been saved from extinction by living in Black River’s trees. Chamarel’s Seven Coloured Earth Geopark is another must-see for curious holidaymakers. This natural geological formation, surrounded by lush greenery, is made up of colourful rolling sand dunes that seemingly change with the shifting winds. Gaze amazed as the rocks change from colours from red, brown, violet, green, blue to purple and yellow.

If you’re lucky enough to be visiting in July, do not miss Chamarel’s ‘Fancy Fair’. Every year, on the last Sunday of July, a Mass is celebrated in the courtyard of St. Anne's Church, who lived in the region in the early 17th century. The fair is tremendously popular on the island, and villagers go all out during the celebrations - expect dancing, music, local handicrafts as well as tasting typical Mauritian dishes, such as brown pig Salmi (wild boar), venison stew, wild hare, and delicious free-range chicken curry.
