Barbados
Cobblers Cove was originally a plantation house, combining the charm of an English country house with Bajan style and character. The powder pink of the mansion house is echoed in the candy striped beach umbrellas and the ginger-bread plantation shutters keeps any notions of corporation a long way away.
Many guests have been returning to this oasis for decades, enjoying personal, attentive service from members of staff, some who have worked there for just as long. You will feel pampered from the moment you arrive, and rejuvenated by the time you (begrudgingly) leave.
The hotel is set in its own tropical gardens overlooking a white sandy, palm fringed beach. You are just a short walk from Speightstown with its cafes, small museum and church.
The Camelot Restaurant has previously been voted the best restaurant in Barbados – and serves Caribbean-inspired food. There is also a poolside bar and a complimentary afternoon tea served daily.
Each of the 40 suites at Cobblers Cove have recently been refurbished to provide covered outdoor verandas with deeply comfortable rattan chaises, a mini bar stocked daily with tea, coffee and milk, a drawing room, shower room and air conditioned bedroom.
There is no shortage of activities available, including a range of water sports, tennis, air-conditioned gym and privileged golf status at Apes Hill Club.
Cobblers Cove sits on a picturesque stretch of beach with tranquil, warm and crystal clear water. There is a floating pontoon which is good to swim out to and sunbath on whilst the waves gently rock you.
The kidney bean shaped swimming pool is surrounded by snooze inducing loungers, palm trees and tropical foliage. No need to get up – lounger service is available from the bar.
With just a single treatment room – be sure to book in and choose from an extensive menu of body treatments, facials, manicure and pedicures. Couples treatments are available in the privacy of your suite.
The air-conditioned gym is available when you are ready, and personal training, yoga and Pilates classes can all be arranged.
The tennis court, balls and rackets are available free of charge to all guests. The court has a hard surface and flood lights for the cooler evenings. Private tuition is also available if you want to up your game.
For the more active times, there is a wide range of watersports available to guests, non-motorised such as windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing and kayaking are all complimentary. Every guest has a complimentary water-skiing session, and there is a great watersports team available for tuition at the watersports hut. There is a small rocky reef just in front of the property which attracts colorful fish such as parrotfish and snapper – perfect for snorkelling.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – the oceanfront Camelot restaurant, under the direction of Bajan chef Jason Joseph has a reputation for serving some of the very best cuisine on the island. Once a week is a popular BBQ night, which is very popular with guests and locals. And don’t forget the complimentary afternoon tea – served every day, with a tempting range of finger sandwiches, cakes and melt in your mouth scones.
In the evening, the dress code is casual but elegant.
Located in The Great House, next to the pool – enjoy the large range of fresh juices tropical drinks and evening cocktails. The signature cocktail is the rather potent which contains several shots of local rum, banana, orange and pineapple and a sprinkling of nutmeg – is sure to give you a buzz.
Cobblers Cove is approx. 45 minutes from Barbados International Airport in Speightstown which is located along the north-west cost of Barbados. There are many historic buildings dating back to the early settlement on the island, and this charming town is filled with bustling markets, classic Bajan restaurants and ever so tempting fresh fish stalls.
