Set against a dramatic backdrop of the
Le Morne Brabant mountain, Le Morne Beach offers unbelievable views and stunning landscapes. A short drive from
Bel Ombre, the area is known for its strong winds and waves, making it a favourite among water sports enthusiasts. Despite the active waters, some parts of the beach offer calm areas ideal for swimming and snorkelling, shielded by coral reefs that surround the bay.
Le Morne also holds deep, cultural significance as the mountain once served as a refuge for runaway slaves and is seen as a symbol of resistance. The rugged mountain was declared a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, to ensure its protection for years to come. At the foot of the mountain sits the
International Slave Route Monument, comprised of ten sculptures each designed by artists from countries affected by the slave trade.
