Zafiro Palace Andratx

We had not stayed at a big resort hotel for many years, since a trip to Mauritius……We were absolutely delighted with the Zafiro Palace! The rooms are great, the service welcoming, courteous, and highly efficient! Of special note is the superb breakfast buffet!!!

We chose this hotel as we were looking for somewhere to chill out all-inclusive for a few days. We had a top floor Zafiro Club room (these are in a separate area to the rest of the hotel) which had a balcony with day bed and steps up to a large, partly-covered roof terrace with another day bed, sofa and small pool, which was perfect for our needs. The view over the mountains and part of the bay was lovely. We benefited from some free extras including a massage and private taxi transfers to and from the airport which were a nice touch. I think we also had a "floating breakfast" included, but given our pool was unheated and very cold, we didn't bother! We also had a turn-down service with some small edible treats every night - I'm not sure if this is a Zafiro Club benefit but was much appreciated. Our concierge, Julie, contacted us straight after booking to get details for our transfers and book us into the resort restaurants during our stay, although at this time of year the restaurants were not full even at peak times so it wasn't a problem to book when we wanted. Julie was excellent throughout our stay and contacted us by Whatsapp to arrange bookings and other details and sort out any issues. I have to commend all the staff we interacted with, who even at the end of a long season were all polite, helpful and efficient. We ate at the buffet for lunch and dinner once, and breakfast every day, and were a bit disappointed by the quality. Some of the cooked food didn't seem very fresh or hot and had obviously been sitting out for a while, though the fresh fruit and desserts were great and there was an interesting selection of salad items and the occasional local speciality. We were expecting an à la carte lunch menu at the main restaurant, but perhaps at the end of the season they change things around as it was a buffet - the app also said that the Italian restaurant was open for breakfast, but that wasn't the case. Other food options included poolside food trucks serving quite a large selection of snacks and light meals, and four à la carte restaurants - fine dining, Asian fusion, steak and Italian - which were open on different nights. The Italian restaurant was also open for lunch with a slightly different menu. We tried and enjoyed all of these, though the pool didn't really have any seats and eating a meal from the food truck off your lap on a sun lounger wasn't ideal! It would have been great to have a tapas option for lunch or dinner. There was some unintrusive musical entertainment, including live musicians every night in the bar, and a fabulous poolside DJ one afternoon. The all-inclusive package was generous, and included the minibar drinks and snacks, though on the first day we made the mistake of putting the "do not disturb" sign on the door and missed the refill service, which was separate to housekeeping and didn't come again until the next day. There were beers and soft drinks in the minibar, and you could order a bottle of wine from room service as part of the all-inclusive - none of the room service food was included though, which would have been a nice extra. All the restaurant food seemed to be included without any supplements, as well as two or three local wine options by the glass or bottle, beers, cocktails and spirits, so it was great to be able to choose what you wanted and get to check-out with nothing extra to pay. We enjoyed our stay at this quieter time of year and would go back again, though it felt like a very family-orientated hotel, so probably not the atmosphere we are after during high season.
